International Communication and Media (ICM) is an internationally oriented department within the HU Faculty for Communication and Journalism of the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences -The Netherlands. We train students in theoretical and practical competencies required for a broad range of positions within communication, marketing and media of the internationally operating organizations. We therefore also focus on thorough (inter)cultural awareness, and expect our students to have intellectual curiosity as well as cultural sensitivity.

ICM`s academic offer

ICM`s  offer to its Exchange students is three-fold:

  2. program “Media Psychology”, as a whole or to combine with nr.1 and 3.
  3. program “Sustainability”, as a whole or to combine with nr.1 and 2.

The character of ICM

Unique at ICM is the afore mentioned freedom of choice of our visiting students to compose their own appealing study package of 30 ECTS. Being allowed to attend any of the courses and scheduled to all our classes, they  become part of ICM by working together with our regular students. ICM regular students come from all over the world:  China, Bulgaria, USA, Qatar, Germany, Spain, Ghana, Canada, UK, Brazil, France, South Korea, Russia, Mexico and the Netherlands. Our lecturers are as international as our students and ICM is known for its friendly, easy- going atmosphere and excellent student-lecturers relations.

Didactical method at ICM

Our study program consists of theoretical courses, group projects on cases from professional practice and individual trainings in skills (o.a. writing, speaking, giving presentations). We offer blended learning to our students, where individual meetings with lecturers are combined with interactive courses, coaching in projects, online consultations etc. Our course assessments consist of individual exams, group or individual assignments and/ or a combination of these.

ICM`s academic calender

Our study year is divided into 4 periods A, B, C and D. Periods A and B correspond with the 1st semester (fall: begin Sept/ end January) and periods C and D with the 2nd semester (spring : begin Feb./end June). Each period consists of 10 study weeks and ends with exams.
