Whether you are a serious athlete or just enjoy recreational sport, Olympus Sports Centre on De Uithof campus offers a full range of facilities and welcomes international students.
Indeed, if you are studying at HU you qualify for a discount of 50 per cent or more on many activities. The complex features three sports halls, four squash courts, a fitness zone, a dance hall and a café, plus outdoor football, rugby and hockey pitches, two beach volleyball courts and nine all-weather tennis courts.
In all, you can take part in more than 70 sports. You could even try your hand at typically Dutch activities like korfball, a team game related to netball and basketball. There is an intensive programme of classes, and professionally supervised individual instruction is also available. Whatever your interest or ability, Olympus prides itself on a relaxed atmosphere in which all users feel at home.
Beyond the campus, there are also plenty of recreational activities to keep you occupied. Utrecht has several public swimming pools and other sporting venues, for instance. Cycling is a Dutch passion, and a day in the saddle is a great way to see the surrounding countryside. For a more leisurely view, there are plenty of attractive walks in and around the city. The nearby lakes offer a variety of water sports in a beautiful setting, and the beaches of the North Sea coast are easily visited in a day. Finally, discover the real local passion by spending a Sunday afternoon at Galgenwaard, home of Eredivisie (Dutch premier league) club FC Utrecht.
